Meet the Foster Hounds

Bonded Pairs
The following bassets are bonded pairs who must be adopted together. They could be littermates or related in another way; however, attempts to separate them have failed, so they must find a forever home who will love them both. If your family spends frequent amounts of time away from home, please consider adopting a bonded pair so they can keep each other company while you're not around.

Maggie & Moses need a foster home! They were left behind when their owners moved. Moses and Maggie are 9 year old bassets who love to love and be loved back. They love to be rubbed on their bellies and moan joyfully when you massage their ears. They love to go for walks, both short and long. Give them a rawhide and they think it’s Christmas! Moses has more energy than Maggie but that’s why they complement each other so well. They behave fine with children and are gentle and loving towards babies. They will love anyone who gives them lots of attention, as they have been spoiled and loved tremendously by their owners their whole lives. They prefer the indoors with thier people. They know how to use a dog door and are both up-to-date on their shots and are currently on heartworm preventative. Moses is neutered and Maggie is spayed. If you have a desire for the most lovable bassets, this affectionate pair will bring you so much joy to your hearts. This pair is waiting on a foster home at a local kennel.

These basset hounds have been rescued by Basset Hound Rescue of Georgia, Inc. and are available for adoption. They are in the care of volunteer foster families or are being boarded at a vet's office or kennel until a foster home becomes available. If you are considering adopting one of our bassets, please review our adoption process and submit an adoption application. A complete adoption application is required before the foster families will be put in touch with you.

Take me to see the Female Basset Hounds (30 available).

Take me to see the Male Basset Hounds (44 available).

Take me to see the Special Needs Basset Hounds (5 available).

Owner Referrals
These dogs reside with their owners while waiting for a new home. An adoption application is required before the basset's owner will be put in touch with you. If the basset is in the care of another rescue, their adoption procedures must be followed. Otherwise the standard BHRG adoption fee is required. BHRG cannot vouch for the temperament or health of these hounds since they are not in the care of one of our foster homes, but vet records will be provided.

Belvedere is a 4 year-old male basset hound who is so wonderful and loving, however he needs to be in a home without small children.  His ideal home would be with an older couple or a home with no children. He is slow and never in a hurry for anything but losing some weight will help with that.  Belvedere weighs 75 lbs currently. He gets along fine with other dogs and does have another dog in his current home.  He does not get on furniture or eat table food. He rings a bell on the door to go outside so he is housetrained, and he's also crate-trained. Belvedere sits, shakes, sings but never quite got the rollover thing.   He really just needs a home where time can be spent with him because he has been depressed ever since the baby arrived.  Saying that, he loves the kids in the neighborhood when he is out on walks and is friendly with anyone who walks by while he is outside.  He just feels overwhelmed by the changes in his home. Belvedere is neutered, up-to-date on shots, and current on heartworm prevention.

CharlieH is a 3 year old, tri-colored basset who needs to find a less chaotic home. The loud noises and sudden movements of the little kids in his home tend to startle him. CharlieH gets along well with other dogs and enjoys adults. He loves to cuddle up on the couch and be close to his family at all times. He is housetrained and doesn't use a crate in his home. CharlieH had half of his intestine removed when he was 1 1/2 yrs old because of something he chewed up and swallowed, but he recovered 100%. He is up-to-date on his shots and does take heartworm preventative. Can you open your home to this wonderful boy?

Gus & Molly need a new home because their owner is in the military and he cannot take them along to his next assignment. Gus is 10 years old and has the darker face. Gus is very active for a basset. If you want to play and run around he is all about it as long as you don't mind him barking at you the whole time. He also reacts to you with little squeeks when you talk to him and turns his head. The funniest thing about him is he hates to smell good. After his baths he runs all around the yard like crazy and will scoot and roll and look like a sugar cookie. Molly is 8 years old. Molly is a loves to cuddle. She bays when anyone comes around - she loves to hear herself. She also squeeks when you talk to her. She is shy but warms up after awhile. Molly is not as active as Gus she prefers to sleep until its time to eat she has more typical basset behavior. Both dogs are neutered, up-to-date on shots, and current on heartworm prevention. These bassets do not use a crate and they are partially housetrained. Gus & Molly are both red & white. They get along with small kids, adults, and other dogs, but we don't know about cats. Can you give this pair a home so their owner can continue to serve his country with peace of mind?
